New Home Preview

We are moving this weekend to Takoma Park in D.C. and we have been slacking on all the packing! All that is packed is our living room and bathroom, we have yet to tackle the dining room and kitchen :/

Our new place has been a complete fixer upper and still has a ways to go, but all the painting is finally completed and we will have to renovate the rest as we go.

Our new apartment is above a funeral home, the place where my husband and dad work at, and my dad used to own. I swore I would NEVER live in one of the 2 apartments that are above the funeral home, but Kirk's boss gratuitously offered it to us pretty much rent free--who could give up that offer?? So I gave in and realized we can start hoarding money away for our dream home!

So our new adventure begins living above a funeral home!

9 Patch Cupcake Quilt

Since I finished my first quilt, I've caught the sewing bug and can't seem to stop! I've been making kindle cases, pillow cases, cell phone holders, and pot holders. I decided last week to start another quilt.

I was a Joann's fabric since I had coupons, and found several very cute cupcake fabric and that inspired me to make a cupcake quilt. It was my first time at Joann's and I don't know if I'd ever go back, since I've been so spoiled going to a small boutique fabric store called Capital Quilts and service is always super fast there! I waited an hour almost to have my fabric cut at Joann's :(

My progress so far on my cupcake quilt:

Casket Birthday Cake and Cupcakes

I had a busy cake week this past week. I had a Birthday cake to make and I decided to make a casket cake since it was for someone who owned a funeral home, and I thought it was absolutely perfect! The cake was a 5 day process. Day 1 I started gum paste flowers for decor and I spent 2 days on the flowers. On the 3rd day I baked the cake, day 4 I assembled and carved the cake out, and finally day 5 I covered and decorated the cake.

Step 1 I covered the cake with chocolate satin ice fondant

Step 2 I added indents and handles which are on real caskets
Step 3 I put the gum paste flowers on and secured them with royal icing
Step 4 I added the fondant Happy Birthday plate

Not only did I make this casket cake this week, I also did some cute girly birthday cupcakes to go along with the cake with the matching gum paste flowers.

Holiday Photo Shoot

My friend Hannah took some amazing pictures of some of my holiday treats. I made holiday gift boxes as presents which were filled with whoopie pies, meringues, gingerbread men, chocolate dipped pretzels, and peppermint chocolates and cupcakes.
